Every pound matters. We are always raising funds to support the school. We are currently looking to expand our new property whilst continuing to provide daily meals and teacher salaries for 525 children.

has a job.

We are proud to be a small charity (UK Registered CIO No. 1178553). Because we don't maintain a corporate office or run expensive marketing campaigns, the funds we raise go directly to Nairobi to pay for food, educational materials, building maintenance, and the salaries of our dedicated qualified Kenyan teaching staff.

Rossholme Rambles

Through the history

2025

Expanding the Trails

The Ramble grew even more ambitious, centering around the village of Holne and the welcoming Church House Inn. Walkers chose their own challenge: a scenic northerly 11-mile loop via Dr Blackall's Drive, a rugged southerly 15-mile route past the Avon Dam, or gluing them together for the ultimate 26-mile test. 2025 also saw the introduction of the popular 'Little Ramble' - a gentler 5.5-mile route along the River Dart, ensuring everyone could take part.

A Community Movement

The event truly blossomed. What began as a solo effort became a massive community affair. Setting off at a "misty, moisty" 6:00 AM, Kitty and Christian were initially accompanied by family before 14 more intrepid walkers (and several local dogs) disappeared into the Dartmoor mist to tackle distances ranging from 2 to 15 miles.

The entire rural community rallied behind them, rattling collecting tins in the local tea shops and the Globe pub in Appley. After completing an incredible 27 miles, the team even called Joyce Aruga in Nairobi directly from the trail, who was absolutely delighted to thank the wet and weary walkers personally over the phone for raising over £1,700.

"This happy get-together on Dartmoor proved to be such a fun day for the participants and supporters, we hope it will become an annual fundraising event."

The Team Grows

The challenge caught on. For the second annual walk, Kitty was joined by her nephew, Christian Edbrooke, establishing the Ramble as a team effort. To beat the sharp autumnal lack of daylight on 11th November, the duo had to tackle the 26 mile moorland terrain using headtorches in pitch darkness at both the very beginning and end of the day, a prospect Kitty admitted she was far more anxious about than Christian!

Their determination was fueled by a critical mission: helping Rossholme School secure the vital £25,000 needed to permanently gain possession of its land and property, ensuring a safe future for the children.

"We were both lucky enough to receive a good education, which we took totally for granted - and we feel very strongly that supporting Rossholme is the right thing to do."

The First Step

What started it all. When a double-whammy of an ear infection and poor weather cancelled a planned fundraising swim across Windermere, volunteer Kitty Hollingsworth refused to let her sponsors down.

Pivoting on the spot, she and her brave friend John (walking for the Alzheimer's Society) set off in the dark on 10th September to tackle a gruelling 26 hilly miles across Dartmoor instead. Despite 4,500 feet of climbing, submerged stepping stones, and pure exhaustion, they crossed their self-imposed finish line straight into a local pub-raising an incredible £820 and setting the foundation for what the Ramble is today.

"Thank you all once again for your kindness and support, you kept me going when all I wanted to do was lie down in the ditch and cry!"

With love, Kitty x
